Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.

My name is Sydney. I am the face behind the Little Homesteading Nook. I’m a wife and a mom of four, working full-time, actively learning and making healthier food choices for my chaotic home full of kids, pets, and plants.
Here you will find amazing sourdough recipes, lots of from-scratch goodies, other breads and fermented foods, and handmade projects created with natural ingredients to make your home cozy.
I have a passion for baking bread, gardening and growing beautiful plants. I like to experiment, and I enjoy learning and trying new things. Any recipe I can potentially alter or create to make healthier, or turn to sourdough (my favorite), I’m going to do it!

I have toys trailed across my living room floor more often than not. Playdough and crayons might as well be home decor at this point. I’m always behind on laundry and dishes aren’t always clean and put away, but I may have a slight obsession with all thing’s pioneer woman, so at least they’re pretty!

You’ll almost always find veggie and fruit scraps in glass bowls hanging around my kitchen that I intend to plant, jars of something fermenting, more eggs than I even know what to do with chilling in baskets on my countertop, and a bowl of dough of some sort rising under the light in my oven.

My husband and I live in a newer farmhouse style home nestled in a corner on just one acre of land with our four kids, two boys and two girls. Along with our small dachshund, our grumpy grey and white cat, and our backyard chickens, ducks and turkeys. Some people enjoy gnomes, I prefer feathered friends.
We are a rather big family, and more land would be an absolute dream, but I’ve realized that waiting for it could rob us of so much time and memories, and the joy that could be experienced exactly where we are right now. I have a small garden, a working kitchen, grass and dirt, happy animals, and a healthy family. That’s a blessing.

Happiness is not determined by what piece of land you live on, but by what you do with what you’ve been given. And I intend to make the most of this little acre.
I started this blog to share my growing list of recipes and to help or inspire others who are learning to navigate the kitchen and, like me, want to feed their families good and wholesome food. All of my recipes are made from scratch with real ingredients, kid approved and made with love!
I am really glad you’re here. If you have any questions or comments for me, feel free to reach out! Or even better, pull up a seat and stay awhile. I just hope you like chickens.
